Freelance Writing: Make Millions, Get Famous, Buy a Mansion!

I live in a $1.68 million mansion. I drive a 2008 BMW with heated seats. And even though you might not recognize my name, I’m actually very famous. Thanks to my freelance writing career, I am richer than Donald Trump, Steve Jobs, and Warren Buffett combined.
Believe me?
I’m making this up, course. I’m not famous, or rich. I do not live in a mansion. I drive a 3-year-old Ford Taurus with unheated seats. And I live in humble but comfortable quarters in a town you’ve probably never heard of in mid-Michigan where you can practically hear the corn growing and the cows breathing in the summertime.
There are many myths about freelance writing as a career. And while it’s a wonderful way to make a living, it’s not a career choice for the faint of heart or for people who are easily discouraged.
Jen Miller has an excellent piece today on her blog, “Down the Shore with Jen.” So if you are already freelancing full time or are thinking about taking the leap, read today’s post, “5 Myths of Freelance Writing.” If you’re walking around with any delusions about this profession, you won’t be after you read today’s piece.
As Jen says, “This is not a job for the lazy. It’s not even a job for the pull yourself up by your bootstraps type. It’s a job for the person who makes her own boots.”
So did you ever buy into any of the myths about freelance writing? Drop me a line—I’d love to hear all about it!

Hey Jenny,
This is so great to put out there. I’ve been asked about getting into freelance writing by about a half dozen of my community members recently – Actually going to have to do a post about it, I think.
Gosh, I hope people don’t put all of their eggs in a freelancing basket without really checking it out.
Good to hear from you again, I look forward to more!!!
Cheers
George
Thanks George!
I think too many people jump in without knowing the risks. It’s a wonderful profession, but it can be challenging for sure.
Thanks for dropping by! And by the way, loved your TwiTip post the other day: http://tinyurl.com/6c8e8v
