Friday Food Feature Octopus Tastes Great…’nuff Said

I don’t know how healthy Octopus is, but I tell you that it tastes great. I don’t think it’s fatty at all and has to be a great source of protein. I like Squid and Cuddle fish but I rarely get to eat Octopus. Tonight we went out to eat at a place called the Hibachi Grill. It is a very large Asian style buffet with such an amazing variety of Asian foods. My son and I went and got our food while my wife sat with our daughter. After we sat down they went and got their food and I saw Octopus on my wife’s plate so I was looking for it in the next round. I found it and it was prepared spicy with Jalapeños. It wasn’t very chewy and that is one thing that you get with octopus and squid. They can be very chewy if not prepared right or not thawed properly before cooking. Below is a link to a great article on the Octopus eatery. Next time you’re out at a place that serves Octopus, give it a shot. It’s not very hard to get past the tentacles at all. Enjoy.

I am not (NOT!) a seafood person, but I love calamari (fried squid…and note the “fried” portion), but I also sampled smoked octopus once and adored it. I was shocked. It was completely delish and seemed really quite healthy.
So yes, agreed, anyone who hasn’t given it a try really should.
I like fresh fried calamari. Cleaning a squid (which I had to do in a culinary class) was not fun at all…and they stink. We’re going to try some escargo this week.
