Many people operate on the idea that they can borrow from the future — or just get an advance on something — in order to make their finances work. Instead of saving up for things, or creating some sort of a plan to determine where the money goes so that everything is paid for, the idea of an “advance” or raiding one’s savings or money jar, is one that promotes instant gratification. Ultimately, it also leads to poor money habits that often result in living paycheck to paycheck without really getting ahead. As can be seen in this clip from The Simpsons.
