Gambling on the Super Bowl

Will Tom Brady or Eli Manning be named MVP of this year’s Super Bowl? Would you like to put some money on that?
Gambling on the Super Bowl is a time-honored tradition. You can place bets on who will win. You can place bets on the score at the end of each quarter. You can place bets on injuries, number of certain plays made and even the half-time show. You can place bets on commercials.
But it’s all in good fun, right? Not always. Gambling on the Super Bowl amongst your friends and family is one thing. Placing sports bets is quite another. But if you insist on gambling on Super Bowl, no matter the circumstances, here are a few rules to keep in mind.
- Don’t bet money you can’t afford to lose.
- Avoid going double or nothing. Especially if you’re doing it to cover your losses.
- Bet about what you know.
- Remember: nothing is a “sure thing.”
Who am I betting to win? Well, my husband is a Giants fan, so that’s who we’re rooting for. I am in a pool, but it’s more about having fun, and no money is changing hands. That’s the only gambling I’m comfortable with.
