Gears of War annoyance #1: Decompression takes forever

If you’re cheap like me, then you’re still probably hanging on to your year-old rig even if Crysis or Gears have come out. I’m still hanging on to my Athlon 64, but was smart enough to put in a gig of RAM to run current shooters.
However, I never expected Gears’ installation to take this long.
The actual installation of files took around 15 to 20 minutes. Sure, I can handle 20 minutes. When I thought the wait was over, the game started “Decompressing files” to the tune of 40 fricking minutes. If that wasn’t bad enough, running other apps (i.e. Word or Photoshop) in a PC with 1GB of RAM is taking longer than it should be.
It almost feels like my rig is running with 128MB of RAM. I haven’t even started updating the game yet, and we all know there’s a problem there too.

I had formated my brand new 500GB hard disc so I had to install GOW once more.
Everything was going well when suddenly the “Decompressing files” pop up my screen I though my Core 2 Duo was crashed… Later I experienced the first of many bugs this game has… and here we go again. It takes a lot patience and the rest of the evening…the “bugfix” was the files of a “saved profile” I had to download.
