Gears of War annoyance #2: WTF? Extra installs!
Can you believe this? After taking forever to install, Gears of War for the PC is telling me to install more software updates on my PC. This time, the game wants me to get AMD Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16.
After downloading the update here, the system is now telling me that the CPU driver’s version must be uninstalled before the new driver may be loaded. When I try to uninstall the old CPU driver, it doesn’t work.
Wonderful.
The last time I had an installation this finicky was in the 1990s when I was still using DOS and DirectX didn’t exist.
This day isn’t turning out so great after all.

I remember the days of pissing about with my computer and trying to get games to work.
Clear up disk space, install new drivers, decompress the hard drive, download patches…still, I do kinda miss it in a sick way.
Good luck getting Gears to work. You’ve been waiting a while for this – it’ll all work itself out, I’m sure.
Hey Klopzi. I don’t miss it at all. I did get the game working, but I was warned that it might act up all of a sudden. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
lol @ “…at some point the game will stop and your progress will be lost”
You’re telling me, Amy. Doesn’t sound like a Windows game. The most ironic part–Gears is published by Microsoft Game Studios.
Can someone tell me again why Microsoft is earning truckloads of cash?
Hey Mike. I have the exact same problem and I have already downloaded that AMD driver. When I run it, however, it tells me that it’s about to install version 1.3.2.0, not 1.3.2.16
Did this happen to you as well?
