Get Paid To Post?

February 2, 2007 by Anne Wayman

We’ve all seen the ads that promise to pay us for posting to forums. Teresa over at Making Light, started a discussion about the pros and cons with a post called I Am Not Content.

The post has gathered well over 100 comments, many of them writers and would-be writers who share their various experiences with paid posting gigs. I’ve mostly stopped posting ads for these writing jobs because they feel dishonest somehow.

Seems like everything is advertising these days. I work to monetize my blogs and websites just like most. I was listening to a radio report I can’t find now about how someone has figured out they can turn a football field into a giant TV. Something about fiber optics and artificial turf. Of course, many are waiting for the Super Bowl ads Sunday which may be more important than the game itself.

I wonder if we’re not approaching a place where there is so much advertising, all advertising gets ignored.

Write well and often,

Amen to that. And it can get very…disheartening. So many things are about making a buck, and while we want to be paid for what we do, we also want to feel satisfied with what we do. Money/advertising is always satisfying. Especially when you’re not thrilled with what you have to do to get it.

I’ve already reached that point. I ignore everything, unless the ad is something I absolutely want/need, and had some inkling of the fact that I wanted/needed it before I saw/read the ad.

  2. At this point, an ad is more likely to turn me off a product than on to it.

That’s one reason why none of my sites have ads on them — people can visit with me and have a rest.

  3. I tend to think I’ve become immune to advertising messages, but then when I’m in the market for something I realize I like ads, but only about things I’m activly considering buying.

    EDIT – I meant “Money/advertising ISN’T always satisfying” – haha.

I’ve done some paid to post advertising, but have cut way back on it. The quality of most ads leave something to be desired and I would much rather engage my readers in constructive conversation instead of losing them to an ad they have no interest in reading anyway.

That’s sort of been my sense of it Matt – thanks

I’m a Freelance Writer and I’d like to know about reliable sites where I can find jobs. It happens to me, that there are plenty fo sites, but I find it hard to find good/reliable job offers.
If you know about any, please feel free to write to me. Reply to my e.mail
    Thanks a lot!
