Although the holiday season should be a relaxing time, for many Americans stress actually increases during the holidays. Time and money are at a crunch because of the seasonal to-do’s so many have higher tension and are near emotional tilt. Whatever your situation is, make sure to give yourself a break with exercise.
Exercise gives you both a natural high and a distraction from your problems. The natural high results from your body releasing endorphins as a result of exercise and a decreasing of stress hormones. Distractions can work in a number of ways such as a change of scenery, more constructive and different use of your time.
Look to high intensity exercises for the most effective stress relievers. Weight lifting, boxing, running, basketball, tennis, and cycling are just a few that will melt away your troubles in no time. Low intensity exercise also helps but not as well as more challenging workouts.
