GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra Trailer

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra comes out on August 7, 2009 and I seriously cannot wait!  I think the casting is fantastic for this film and I’m hoping that this live-action version of one of my favorite childhood cartoons will be just as good as Transformers.

Yes, I know that this isn’t going to include every character and nuance that we remember from the original show but instead of dwelling on it (some of the message boards around the internet are getting ridiculous), just go with this fresh take on it.  I would have loved to hear just a few bars of the original Transformers theme song in the movie but I didn’t and I am at peace with it.  Moving on…

In the film, an “elite military unit comprised of special operatives known as G.I. Joe, operating out of The Pit, takes on an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer.”  Channing Tatum (She’s the Man)  as Duke is going to be perfect but I’m a little more hesitant about Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock From the Sun, 10 Things I Hate About You) as Cobra Commander.  It’s not so much his acting that I’m worried about but I am not sure I like what they did with Cobra Commander’s look.  He kind of looks like he’s hooked up to life support or something, rather than being just a bad guy.  It reminds me of my  frustration over the “revamed” Megatron in Transformers. I got over it but I wasn’t thrilled because I think the original Megatron looks a lot cooler.  Oh well.
