Ginepri Beats Blake at SAP Open

The world of sports naturally revolves around the rise and fall of athletes. Some shoot up for a brilliant few moments in the rays of glory and victory. Others stay there for a long time.

Remember Robby Ginepri? Don’t worry if you don’t. Ginepri hasn’t been in the top ranks of the world’s tennis players since December of 2005 when he was ranked 15th. Ginepri beat James Blake yesterday in the quarterfinals of the SAP Open in straight sets. Ginepri is currently ranked 138th was unseeded in this tournament.

Is Ginepri on a comeback tour? He reached the semifinals at Delray Beach last week before, ironically, getting ousted by Blake. And he’s in the semis again this week. I wouldn’t exactly call it a comeback tour yet. I prefer to keep things simple. Like - reaching two consecutive semifinals is better than not making it past the quarters.

This is tennis. It doesn’t mean anything until you back it up on the big stages.
