You should be okay with your married name, if that is what you've been using lately. Your maiden name will appear on the credit report as well, as an alias, and all of that history will be there.

The advice is to be consistent. For a married woman, the aliases will show up, and all the attendant history. So having one alias, which is obviously your maiden name, shouldn't hurt. It's evident that you haven't been trying to get more credit by using different names.

I'd like to know whether I should use my maiden name, which I had for 36 years to do a credit score check or my married name, which I have had less than 2 years, but in that time I've leased a new car and bought a home in my name. I've also gotten new credit cards with new providers, which seems like a negative - not long-standing accounts. I should note that I did not do a name change with the 3 bureaus and am going to do that now.

I never thought about #4 before - and it applies to me a lot since my legal name is a combination of my maiden and married name (thankfully short and no hyphens). But sometimes, the computers won't accept the spacing so I just go with my married name for convenience. I didn't realize that could make a different on my credit score. Thanks!
