Good Management by Quotation

“Good management is the art of making problems so interesting and their solutions so constructive that everyone wants to get to work and deal with them.” – Paul Hawken

I don’t know if I agree or disagree with this quote, but it does make me think a bit more about my management style.

Hi Phil, It seems to me that Hawken is offering another way to encourage people to take ownership. It probably works best when everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the ‘constructive solution’ , but even without that you can’t motivate people if what they need to do bores them silly.

  2. I don’t know this sound like the carrot and stick philosophy of leadership. With the manager being the problem seeer and knowledge base. this quote appears to take the creative and free thought out of the hands of the people and keep it focused in the “management”.
