Google Pack with StarOffice 8

Google has a recent addition to its software package distribution known as Google Pack, the StarOffice. Yes, it is another productivity tool selected by Google which is always a free distribution package and rest assured that there are no spywares nor expirations. Downloading and installing can be be done in an instant.

The new addition, which is the StartOffice 8 Suite, is developed by Sun Microsystems. Notably, Sun made release of StarOffice source codes last 2000 and eventually became the benchmark in developing OpenOffice, another project of Sun which is open source office suite. Currently, StarOffice 8 license is sold at $69.95. But if you opt to download Google Pack with StarOffice — it’s free. Cool eh?

After making this distribution to public, questions are raised. Like, why StarOffice and not OpenOffice? Isn’t OpenOffice an open-source and Google loves advocating open source softwares. Or, did Sun tied up with Google to do the distribution of their software? If so, what’s the difference of selling it directly from Sun and have it with Google Pack? Obviously, people will go for Google Pack since it’s free. So, it that case, wonder how much Sun is paying for Google to distribute their StarOffice or the other way around? Let’s see in their upcoming revelations. And the last intriguing question — is this a threat to MS Office Suite? Or Google is just giving another reason to its valued users to hate MS Office? Just curious.

StarOffice includes office productivity tools like word processing, presentation, database tool, spreadsheet, and drawing tools — much likely as MS Office.

The current Google Pack includes softwares from its homegrown applications like Google Desktop, Gtalk, Google toolbar, Picasa, Google Earth, and other softwares which are freely distributed including Norton Security Scan, Adobe Reader, Spyware Doctor, Skype, Real Player, and Star Office 8. Cool, right? :) Try it now, visit here.

“Google has just a recent add-up to its software package distribution called Google Pack.”

Could you translate that sentence into English please?

  2. Sorry about that, I already corrected it. It was my mistake of not reading it before publishing. Thanks you for that feedback.

Methinks they must be plotting to sync it up with Google Apps somehow?
