Google Phones (GPHONE) Prototypes Expected at Mobile World Congress

Google phones (NASDAQ: GOOG) otherwise called Gphones are expected to be shown at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. A couple of handphone makers will be showing off their prototype phones that will run using Google’s Android Project.

“the success of Google’s effort to develop a next-generation mobile phone will largely depend on convincing independent developers – whom Google is counting on to add all the bells and whistles to its mobile phone software – that there will be a broad market for their applications.

I agree with this. However, I would expect that most of the independent developers eyes and ears would be on the reactions and comments of people who will have a glimpse of these prototypes. If the reception is quite good, then I guess we’ll be seeing production phones using Android within the scheduled send half of 2008.

Next stop after that, I’d expect Google to monetize it by allowing advertisers to reach consumers via mobile phones. (Adwords for mobile phone???).
