Grand Theft Auto IV Trailer: “Move Up, Ladies.”

The long-awaited new trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV has been released. I’ve embedded a sensible YouTube version of the video. If you want the full HD experience, head over to GameTrailers. They deliver what they promise.

When my husband watched this he said, “Wow, I’ve never seen such a crisp PS2 game before!”

Okay, that’s being a little snide, but I can’t say I’m in love with the department-store- mannequin facial expressions here, or the jerky movements. Then again, Grand Theft Auto has always been about the depth of its gameplay, so as long as we have that, I don’t much mind if everyone waves their hands around like idiots in lieu of emoting.

The question isn’t how good the game will be (because we’ll all probably get around to buying it or a remake from the 20 dollar bin sooner or later) but what ethnic stereotype they’ll be capitalizing on next. My vote goes to the Chinese.

In all seriousness though, it looks pretty solid. The dialogue, which has always been my favorite aspect of the GTA franchise (even in 1 and 2) seems tight, the gameplay looks sufficiently epic and the storyline has actually got hooks a few in me already. Sweet deal.

Ha! That’s true. One thing you can say about Rockstar, everyone gets their equal (mis)representation.

The story and dialogue definitely look good; it’s rare to see games where the voice actors are comfortable with their roles and not just going through the motions. If graphics take a backseat, I don’t mind. It’s not like there aren’t a million other pretty games to look at out there.
