Great Blog Off Tip #7: Cancel E-Mail Subscriptions and Notifications

Yes, I know this sounds like the exact opposite of what I just told you to do, but believe me, it’s not. In Tip #6, I told you to get electronic subscriptions, statements, etc., to cut down on your paper accumulation. But now I want you to go through all of those things, subscriptions in particular, and ditch the electronic version of anyhing you routinely do NOT have time for. We’re talking about the nonessential stuff.
Despite my best intentions, I just do not have the time to read through everything that comes into my inbox. So instead, it just sits there and increases my unread message count, which in turn increases my blood pressure. So, any time I end up with two or three of a newsletter in my box and I simply haven’t read it, I unsubscribe. It’s not like I’m going to miss it, you know? And it’s one less thing to feel stressed about.
What is one e-mail newsletter you can’t live without? Leave a comment.

I agree, but another option if you’re like me and you DO really want to try to get to read many newsletters but don’t have time, is to use ONE account for all those subs. Use that account for newsletters and newsletters alone. Then, once a week, or however often you have time, go through and catch up on your reading. :)
It’s also good for when you want to be notified about responses to your comments on blogs, etc.
This is a great tip and one I use. I also filter my “newsletters” into one folder. This is where my switch to gmail as a primary mail acct comes in handy. The mail is labeled and bypasses my inbox straight into the newsletters folder. Once a week or more often if there’s time, I catch up on reading. I can delete anything I don’t have time for but my inbox remains clutter free.
@Dawn – That’s a great idea. I wish I’d thought of it! :) Thank you for sharing.
@Karen – Very smart, and great way to leverage Gmail’s options. Thanks!
