Great idea for any business over at Home Biz Notes

If you aren’t reading Home Biz Notes, one of my sister blogs in the b5Media Business Channel, you are definitely missing out.
I know, your start up business may not be a home-based business, but a lot of the little gems over there can certainly help ANY business.
Yesterday, they offered a great marketing tool that I use often for my business: guest blogging.
If you have been thinking of blogging as a good marketing tool, you’re on the right track. However, what most people don’t realize is in order for blogging to be effective you must do it a lot: at least three times a week for effectiveness. So there’s a big commitment involved.
It’s the same with podcasting. I’ve just been dabbling in podcasting and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a great tool – especially for someone like me who was in broadcasting for years, but you need to commit to it and make it a part of an ongoing marketing plan.
So instead of making a major committment try guest blogging or guest podcasting.
Let me share my secret to becoming a guest podcaster:
I find podcasts that reach my target markets. Then I send the host or producer an email offering my services as a fill-in guest host. Many jump at the chance, becuase they are weary of the weekly or sometimes daily grind of putting together a show. Or sometimes people ask me to fill in when they get sick or have another obligation.
Either way, I look like a hero to the podcaster – and I get a direct way to chat to my target audience.

Shannon – Thanks for referring your readers to Mary Emma’s post at Home Biz Notes. I co-blog there with Mary Emma.
Along with guest blogging, your guest podcasting sounds like a great way to get known as well.
Thanks, Shannon, for recommending Home Biz Notes to your readers and for your praise of the guest post idea. Podcasting is one of the next “techie” things I need to learn to do.
