Great Mike Tyson Posters: A Superhero is Born

In our Boxing Posters for Sale post we promised a look at some of our favorite Mike Tyson posters on sale at Bob Pace Boxing Memorabilia Store. Here’s number three of our favorite four.

Tyson - Berbick Tombstone

Fight: Mike Tyson (27-0) vs. Trevor Berbick (31-4-1)
Date: November 22, 1986
Site: Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada

This was the night when destiny happened. When a 20-year-old from Catskill, N.Y. rushed to the center of the ring – black shorts, black shoes, no socks – and overwhelmed the WBC champ with ferocious blow after ferocious blow dropping him numerous times. The fight was mercifully stopped in the second with Iron Mike becoming the youngest ever world heavyweight title holder.

This is the rare tombstone poster from that fight. A fight attended by nearly every boxing legend in what everyone knew would be the coronation of a boy king. A boy king who everyone hoped would reign for a long time and establish himself as the greatest heavyweight ever.

The poster itself is dominated by the Judgment Day tombstone but it is the whirlwind Tyson who grabs your attention. His image is too awesome to be captured, moving too fast to be in focus, and much too overwhelming.

Berbick’s image on the poster looks to be deigning to Tyson. His head is down and he’s face is hidden from the light. He knows it’s his judgment day and he already knows what the decision will be.

Poster price: $700

That is a beautiful poster and Mike Tyson is still seen as one of the best boxers. Even though he doesn’t box anymore, he’s a force to be reckon with since he has his peekaboo boxing technique (hiding your face in your gloves). That style gives him a great defense and his punch is one you don’t ever want to get hit by. Mike Tyson will always be a beast that no one wants to mess with.
