Great White North Version of Digg?

September 16, 2006 by Mark Evans

There’s a recently launched called Web site called News 2 that looks like it’s trying to create a Canadian version of Digg or Newsvine. According to the “about” section, News 2 is trying to “create a community organized web application that would be powered by users. All users together act as administrators, which decide whatever to promote news or delete it. Therefore only interesting news would end up on main page. Users can promote news by simply voting for it.” A quick scan gives the impression it’s still early days with a handful of stories from CNN, ZDNet and Yahoo News. Hey, give News 2 credit for trying to Canadian-ize an increasingly popular concept. Speaking of Canadian news communities, I wonder how NowPublic is doing these days?

Mark, thanks for continuing to bring these to our attention. One constructive comments to News2 and all other such Canadian sites – wouldn’t it be best to strictly focus on news pertainig to Canada? Once I see content related to the USA or the world, I quickly tune out.

    Just a thought.

    Best,
    George
