Great Writing Habits for Writers

owleyes.jpgMy dad used to rumble at me, the chains of habits are too small to be noticed until they’re too strong to be broken. I have no idea where he got this quote but I was reminded of it today when I read John Hewitt’s post at The Five Habits of Successful Freelancers.

As I read through his Five Habits I was struck by how much of successful freelance writing really is, at least in part, a matter of habit.

To his five, I’d add a sixth:

Successful Freelancers Are Disciplined Writers

If I don’t write regularly, which has become a habit, the writing just doesn’t get done. Setting up a writing schedule and mostly sticking to it has meant the difference between making a good living as a writer and wishing I could. Which is why I say:

Write well and often,

Hi Anne, thanks for the mention. Glad to see you’ve joined the B5 family. I have a lot of respect for the way they run their blogging organization.

Hey John, good to see you here… yes, b5 is a good outfit.

Writing regularly is key to staying on your game. I’ve found that if, I don’t have any projects to work on and I spend a few days away from the keyboard, then it’s much tougher to get back in the groove.

So trying to do some writing everyday is vital to keeping yourself sharp.

  4. Anne Wayman says:

those spaces can be great for your novel or other book you want to write
