Green Banking with Banco Real

Every year, the Financial Times and IFC give out an award for the Sustainable Bank of the Year. This year, top honors go to Banco Real of Brazil.

Banco Real was selected from a pool of 182 entries. Runner up was Rabobank of the Netherlands. Other regional winners included:

  • Nedbank, South Africa
  • YES Bank, India
  • Industrial Development Bank of Turkey

Sustainable Deal of the Year went to BlueOrchard Finance, Switzerland/Morgan Stanley of the US and Sustainable Investor of the Year went to E+Co also of the US.

Says the judges about Banco Real, “This is a bank that goes beyond all of the sustainable business principles (UNEP-FI, Global Compact, Equator) and applies sustainability practices across every aspect of its business.”
