Greening your Business Event

Earlier this month, Danny Bradbury at Business Green posted a really great story about McAfee’s attempt to hold a environmentally-friendly conference. You can take the lessons from this story and apply them to your own business event. No matter how big or how far, if you’re planning an event, keep the environment in mind. Here are some great tips to use:

  • Choose a venue that is in a central location and that have good public transportation.
  • Purchase food from local providers, instead of going to a chain restaurant for catering.
  • Make your conference literature available online instead of having paper handouts. If someone is really interested, they can print. If not, they won’t be throwing away your packets.
  • Instead of providing bottles of water, have jugs of water and recycled cups.
  • Make recycling bins readily available wherever attendees will be. That way, when they have trash, it won’t go into the waste can if it can be recycled.
  • If possible, hold your event in a hotel. That way, people don’t nee to travel to and from the conference.
