GTA4 Tops Iron Man

Sure, gaming and comic geeks should both rejoice that Grand Theft Auto IV and Iron Man are both smash hits, but the gaming geeks have more to be happy about.
Iron Man opening week: $100 million.
Grand Theft Auto IV opening week: $400 million.
The contrast gets even starker when you consider that Iron Man cost $140 million to make. GTA4 cost only $100 million, $50 million of which was subsidized by Microsoft for downloadable Xbox 360 content. GTA4 raked in not only more revenue, but more profit.
Games have been outpacing movies for a long time. This is just the latest example. It’s also particularly telling since comic and gaming geeks share a huge demographic overlap. Now we know where that overlap spent most of their dollars.
Update, May 7: GTA4 opening week sales hit $500 million.

If anyone wants an intelligent analysis of Iron Man vs GTA4, check out this link.
The fact is:
“hardcore gamers who comprise GTA IV’s main audience are minuscule compared to the audience of a typical Hollywood blockbuster.”
and,
boxoffice revenue is only the “start of a Hollywood movie’s audience, with the far larger DVD, ancillary markets (airplane/hotel/cable TV/etc.) to follow?
may the iron man.

wow the winner is are iron man iam big fan of iron man.
Iron Man was a practically flawless hero flick; its makers drop some pretty obvious sequel hints too… i’m thinking the next one should be equally great
