Halt! No Oil Goes There!
Today the Senate voted 97 to 1 to “tell” President Bush to halt the shipping of crude oil to the Strategic Oil Reserve.
Senators Clinton and Obama took time off from the campaign trail to vote “yea.” Senator McCain was not present.
The measure was added as an amendment to an existing bill on flood insurance reform.
The House of Representatives is expected to vote on a similar (although single issue) bill tonight (Tuesday).
President Bush has not supported the suspension of the shipments, but there has been no word as to whether or not he would veto the (eventual) legislation.
Additionally, Senate Democrats introduced legislation that would negate an arms deal with Saudi Arabia if there is not a increase in their oil production.
