Online video commedienne Christine “Happy Slip” Gambito helped accelerate the transformation of the Filipina global image: from lowly-paid nurse to social media maven. That’s why she deserves nothing less than a hero’s welcome as she visits her parents’ country.
YouTube is huge in the Philippines, and the country’s TV stations are falling into an ugly public ratings squabble. Christine meeting her fans there could accelerate YouTube’s conquest of that country. If you’ve ever seen how exploitative Philippine TV is, you’ll know that’s a good thing. I’m sending a note to Google Philippines country manager Aileen Apolo.
I’ll be in the Philippines next week, so I hope to get my Happy Slip DVDs autographed.
