Harry Potter, My Granddaughter and Me

My granddaughter, aged 12, called just after 11 a.m. this morning. She was bubbling over with excitement because she’d just received the new edition of Harry Potter! Her dad told me she’d actually been up at midnight to watch the web version of the official launch. I had no idea Amazon was so well organized the book would be delivered actually on the day of launch.

While being grateful that my granddaughter loves to read, I was also marveling at the marketing machine that series has created. There are more than 18 million links on google, kids line up in droves. It’s amazing. And they are good books too. Of course, I have to wait until Emily and her brother Ben finish reading this one before I get a crack at it… maybe I can figure out how to write my own best sell while I’m waiting
