Has Apple Missed the Vista Opportunity?

I am reading an article which says that Apple had the biggest chance of increasing their market share when Vista was released. Apple’s share did increase but was still hovering over the 10 percent market share catering to high-end individuals. But in this economy, high end-buyers are also looking into cutting down expenses and Apple should have capitalized on that. While their philosophy had always been on high profit margins, mass sales could have been a vertical market they could have tried.
I do not like high priced stuff and if Apple had cheaper options, I might try their product despite my loyalty to Microsoft.

You assume that Apple’s goal is to increase its overall market share. It isn’t. Apple doesn’t want to compete on cheap products with razor-thin margins. They’re right where they want to be, controlling over two-thirds of the high-end personal computer market. That’s the number that matters to them.
