Health coverage & small business: an election issue

December 19, 2007 by ShannonCherry

The rising costs of health coverage is a big problem – especially for small businesses and startups. And it looks like it’s going to be one of the hot political issues for the presidential election.

I was just reading in the New York Times, that many small business lobbying groups are calling for universal health care, instead of the Democratic candidates proposed provide it or pay-into-a -fund idea.

Many small business can’t afford health insurance for themselve, let alone employees. And, according to a recent survey, only 23% of small business owners would support a play or pay health care proposal.

As a small business owner, is this something that would effect who you vote for? Let me know by leaving a comment.

Thanks for the piece. Health care is one of the most pressing issues of our time. I am so torn on what we should do about it. You here all the horror stories about universal health care but also know that most of those come from biased sources.
Our health insurance system is very broken so we need to do something to make it work. Sadly I see little being done besides lots of the typical political stupidity that we are so used to.
