Hertz Green Collection – rent a Prius, Camry, or other eco-friendly car
Renting an environmentally friendly car just became a little easier with Hertz adding the Toyota Prius to their Green Collection line. It’s the only hybrid, but one of six cars the company recognizes as eco-friendly transportation.
What are the others? The Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Buick LaCrosse, Subaru Outback and Hyundai Sonata. If you’re confused as to why I haven’t talked about these cars before, it’s because Hertz standards seem a bit lax in this area. These are comfortable, crowd-pleasing cars to fit the masses … that all get at least 29 mpg. In addition to drawing attention to cars that save on gas, Hertz has committed to giving something back:
Hertz is committed to saving the environment. That’s why for every reserved and paid Green Collection rental, we will contribute $1 to the National Park Foundation with a minimum contribution of $1 Million*.
So how much is it to rent a Prius? For a weekend day – $50.99 (not including tax, carseats, insurance, or any of that mess). The only problem is availability. I checked 5 of the top airports in the country and only one had a Prius available for rent. So, it may take some doggy determination, but there is one more place you can rent before you buy.

The number of companies that rent hybrid cars is growing. I know Fox Rental Car was one of the first to offer the Prius. Enterprise and Alamo have more than 4000 hybrids in their fleets and would like to add more but Toyota can barely keep up with consumer demand.
Thanks for the heads up on Fox. :)
