Hey, Blogging Pays!

As the National Post continues its enthusiastic embrace of blogs, the Financial Post has a story in today’s paper about a Vancouver blogger, John Chow, who is making some sweet money ($3,440.66 last month) from his blog, johnchow.com. So, how’s he doing it? A lot comes from Text Link ads; a chunk comes from Google AdSense ($500 last month, which is an awful lot of click-throughs); affiliate sales; and cost-per-click activity.
Clearly, Chow is an exception to the rule given most bloggers are lucky to a $1 or $2 a day but it does demonstrate if you’re focused and proactive in the pursuit of advertising (something most bloggers don’t have the time or expertise to focus on), you can make some pretty good dough. By the way, Chow is a huge fan of b5media’s Darren Rowse, who writes the extremely popular Problogger.net blog. Chow’s so enthusiastic about Darren that he has taken out ads on Problogger.

This article featured in yesterday’s Vancouver Sun BusinessBC section. It’s interesting how slowly the “rest of the world” catches onto these ideas. Hopefully people don’t think that everyone will make that sort of money from blogging!
I can see a whole lot of blogs being started tomorrow and abandoned in 3 weeks.
You’re probably right…:)
