Hey If Lara Croft Can Do It…

Then so can the virtua-babes of Second Life. Lara’s sex appeal in gaming circles is a long-standing given, so much so that bits and pieces of it seeped into more mainstream media to the confusion and concern of those who prefer their chicks more siliconed, less pixellated. It turns out that Lara may have started a trend; an irreversible ride down the slippery slope of virtual sexuality the likes of which is enough to make conservatives begin drafting legislation (well not yet, but hey…).

Maxim, the gents magazine, recently published their “Hot 100″, with photos and brief bios of their picks for this year. Included amongst all of the real life models, actresses, and porn starlets, was a surprising entry at #95: Second Life Girl.

95. Second Life Girl
Second Life–a 3-D virtual world that’s imagined, created, and owned by its online residents–was launched in 2003 and now boasts nearly five million inhabitants around the globe. Never taken part in the nerdfest? Isn’t she reason enough?

Despite trying to maintain their macho masculinity by calling Second Life a “nerdfest”, the editors seem intrigued by the possibilities of an online world where the user calls the shots. And with all the creativity and deviance available to them in the game, what did they manage to choose for their representative avatar, a collagenated platinum blonde. I give them credit for trying to expand men’s horizons into the online world, but good grief….how about something HOT? Maybe they’re just trying to keep up with rival PlayBoy, which announced its entry into Second Life this month.

You really have to know the back story behind that particular avatar, which of course Maxim leaves out. The woman in the photo is one of Second Life’s most successful entrepreneurs in content creation. Astonishing, isn’t it, a world where women can be successful AS WELL as eye candy?
