If you’re pondering whether to go the home workout route or keep your gym membership, there are a number of considerations you should weigh. Be realistic and practical in each factor.

Pros of working out at home

huge time saver, no traveling to the gym

  • you will have easy/quick access to cold water, after workout protein shake
  • save money over paying for years of gym memberships
  • no distractions or unwanted conversations

Pros of a gym membership

  • less upfront cost
  • more equipment
  • make connections
  • access to spotters
  • better environment devoted to getting in shape
  • doesn’t take up space in your house

There is no clear cut answer in comparing the benefits of working out at home vs. buying a home membership.  The solution depends on your individual situation.  Do you enjoy your current gym membership?  If not, would you perfer another place?  Can you afford the upfront costs of a home weight system?  Do you have the space to house these weights?

I’m lucky in that I have free weights that were given to me so if I get in a pinch and what a crude workout, I can workout even if the gym is closed.

Last night I added another 37 minutes of running.  No weight lifting today, but I’ll resume my leg workout tomorrow.
