Planning Perspectives Inc. has conducted an annual survey of auto suppliers since 2002 and this year, Honda has won the top spot. This means that Toyota, which was previously the number one auto supplier, has slipped to second place, and Nissan remains in third place.
Still, this does not mean that the situation is rosy for Honda. Sales in April reportedly slipped 25 percent for the automaker. In addition, Honda plans to cut production even further in order to cope with the economic crisis.
Honda’s rise to the top may have less to do with Honda’s actions and more to do with Toyota’s problems. According to John Henke Jr., president of Planning Perspectives, Toyota is starting to resemble American automakers. Apparently, this is not a beneficial comparison for Toyota, which has lost $4.4 billion this fiscal year.
