Honor

I cannot say it better that this: http://www.bizlevity.com/september-11/

And this, reposted with permission from my friend Rori:

I know that today is a very personal day for many people. On one hand, I feel like I don’t have the right to comment on it, because I didn’t experience a loss like so many did. On the other hand, though, as and American, I did want to say a few words:

Register to vote. Know the candidates, and make informed decisions so that you have local, state, and national leaders who make good choices for our country. In the past, I’ve felt hopeless about the future of our country’s politics and have abstained from voting because I didn’t feel like there was a candidate I could get behind. My Daddy has really helped me feel more proactive about politics, and I’m a better person for it.

Love one another. Noting I can say can take away the pain that some people feel today, but what I can say is that I hope we’re all reminded to set petty differences aside and just love the people we care about. I’m not talking about “live every moment as though it were your last” bullshit. I’m just talking about looking at an argument, taking a step back, and realizing that some things are petty and not worth fighting over when you could be enjoying your time with someone else.

Make a difference. Today, the world of blogging will undoubtedly be filled with posts saying telling people to remember and “giving their support” and all that good stuff. It’s empty. Yes, it is important to offer an ear to anyone who needs to talk or to voice your support of our troops, but along with the happy posts, go out and actually do something to make this country a better, safer place. Charity starts in the United States. Today, I’m making a donation to my alma mater’s scholarship fund, which will go towards helping an underprivileged student (much like I was) get an education. Can’t afford to donate somewhere? Volunteer your time, even if it is doing something as little as spending your lunch break walking through your local park and picking up any trash you see.

I urge you to leave comments on it there, but proceed with caution, as you might find other things on that site offensive and, at the very least, nsfw)
