Horse Collars FINALLY Banned

The NCAA has finally stepped up and banned horse collar tackles from college football. They’re already banned in the NFL, since they’re cheap and can easily cause injury. For those of you out there who aren’t hard-core football people, and horse collar tackle is when someone is pulled down from the inside collar of the shoulder pads or from the jersey.
This ban was needed, but it isn’t the only new NCAA football. In addition, this season will see the following changes:
- A 40-second ply clock will start as soon as the ball is motioned as dead. Before, a 25-second play clock started on the ref’s signal.
- Officiating crews will be blended across conferences.
- Chops blocks are more clearly defined in the rules.
- When a runner goes out of bounds (except in the final two minutes of each half), the ref will start the clock again. Before, it was started when the ball was snapped again.
I like all of these new rules and regs. You can read more about them here. Football isn’t fun if it isn’t safe nd fir. What do you think of the changes?
