HOW DO YOU ACCOUNT FOR GETTING FIRED FROM YOUR JOB WITHOUT CAUSE? Is this fair? 2

“In some countries, you cannot be fired or released from your job without cause. In the US, you often can be. Is this fair?”

Darlene McDaniel at Interview Chatter has advice for transnational companies headquartered in the United States with regard to applicable Labor Laws in other countries.

In the Philippines, there is a National Labor Relations Commission which operates as a quasi-appeals court for employee-employer relations. Any employee can appeal a firing case and the government provides pro bono counsel.

The fly in the ointment is the jousting is often not equal. The corporations can hire expensive high caliber lawyers; the employee has a lawyer who has no other incentive than he is doing a civic duty.

However, I know some lawyers whose sense of civic duty is a greater motivation than lawyers’ fees. I even know a Tax Lawyer who belongs to this elite club.
