How Do You Deal With An Angry Customer?

You know the saying, “The customer is always right.” Maybe the customer isn’t always right, but your job, is to make sure whether they’re right or wrong they leave your business happy, if at all possible.

One thing you always have to keep in mind, your past customers are your best marketing tool. Especially with the speed of social media today, word of mouth can make or break your business. How you deal with one angry, or upset customer can have an impact on your business.

So, how do you deal with an angry customer?

  • With patience. It usually takes a ton of patience on your part to deal with a customer when they’re in your face and angry with you or your business. Keep your calm, and try to work through their distress the best you can.
  • Put yourself in their shoes. Try to look at things from your customer’s perspective. Whether they were really wronged, or not doesn’t really matter if they think they were wronged that’s all that matters.
  • Try to be proactive to prevent angry customers to begin with. Have checks and balances in place to help prevent problems that can lead to dissatisfied customers.
  • Pick your customer service employees carefully. Your customer service is the first, last, and sometimes the only part of your company a customer deals with.
  • Make sure your customer feels important. Let them know that their satisfaction is important.
  • Correct the problem as soon as possible. Most customers get angry because their complaints or problems aren’t dealt with in a timely manner.

It’s in your businesses best interest to make sure every customer leaves satisfied with their transaction with your company.
