How do you get new ideas?

When your starting up your business and working in it daily, it can be hard to come up with new, innovative ideas.

But you can DO it.  Here’s some ways how, with help from some of the great thinkers:

1. SIMPLIFY. Boil the problem down to its bone. Toss out all the details that aren’t important or relevant.  Remember, Albert Einstein said, “Everything should be as simple as possible but not simpler.”
2. GET RID OF PERFECTION. Winston Churchill said that “perfection is paralysis.” Looking for perfection and executional detail while you’re still looking for an idea is like counting the chickens before the eggs have hatched.
3. KEEP ON LEARNING. The legendary ad man, James Webb Young, believed that in advertising, “an idea results from a new combination of specific knowledge about products, and people with general knowledge about life and events.” That requires more than reading business stuff. Get your mind expanding by going to movies, listening to music, reading for fun!
4. RESIST THE NAYSAYERS. Once you come up with an idea, you know somebody will be waiting to shoot it down. Resist the temptation to cave in. Remember the words of wise, old Anonymous, “Every great oak was once a nut that stood its ground.”
