How Do You Reenter A Writing Project?

question_mark.jpgEvery writer I know recognizes they need time away from major writing projects. These periods of rest, usually lasting a day or two, give the writer some perspective on the project. The time off also let’s your subconscious work on it, and often you’ll return with a fresh, new idea that turns out to be important.

Of course, when you come back, you’ve got to find a way to quickly reenter the project.

I find the easiest way is to print out the manuscript or a portion of it and sit down with a cup of coffee and a pencil and simply read what I wrote a day or two ago. Almost always I not only find some typos, but spot gaps that need to be filled and sentences that are anything but clear.

Soon I’m at the computer, doing some editing and before long I’m back in the project completely, able to add more pages and generally work until it’s time for the next break.

How do you reenter a writing project?

Hey Anne, sounds like you have a great way of going about the reentering process. Much more smooth than mine, haha. I usually have to sling myself toward the computer then handcuff myself to the chair. :)

Both good methods, depending on the mood BUT how do you know when the end has come!!?? How to get over never feeling ‘it’s’ finished!!
