How Far Will People Go For An Unlocked iPhone?

Apparently quite far. Engadget reports that a reward has been offered for the rights to the software that can unlock an iPhone. It will be released to the public for free. A whopping 100,000 dollars is being offered for the said rights.
Another story shows that a teenager from NJ traded his unlocked iPhone for 3 locked 8GB iPhones and a Nissan 350Z. How’s that for a trade?
I’m a big Apple fan but c’mon… Seriously? Well it just goes to show how important a “free” iPhone is.

What amuses me more is the fact that people outside the US are getting their hands on the iPhone just because there’s some way of unlocking the thing.
They forget that the Asian release will probably have different hardware – so the question is that is it really worth shelling out the dough KNOWING that you’ll probably be forced to change it to a much better (and supported) version down the road.
Early adoption is a very amusing world indeed.
