The iPhone was named Time’s Gadget of the Year for 2007. It’s a great gadget by itself, however as a recent article on Wired states, it’s not just a wonderful piece of technology, it helped changed or at least is changing the wireless industry as we know it.
With all it’s bells and whistles, the iPhone in some aspect still falls behind certain phones but like what the article says, it has some really good things about it that makes you see past all the things that are bad. But despite the great gadget that it is, the biggest achievement of the iPhone is the the fact that it has started to change the way the wireless industry is. Thank you Apple and Steve.
For the first time, a wireless company ceded control over how a mobile phone would be developed and how it the consumer will experience the whole process. Like what the Wired article said, the focus has shifted back to the consumer. The wireless industry lost focus on the most important aspect of any business, its customers.
For a long time the carriers have dictated what, how and when. Now Apple has defied the norm and actually made something that customers would really what. This is proven by how fast people have adopted the iPhone. Living in a country that shouldn’t have iPhones yet, it’s the the gadget of choice by techno freaks.
The road to the iPhone was not an easy one but I think it was a journey that was well worth it. Once again, like the iPod, Apple is revolutionizing an industry that is starting to lack in imagination.
Read Wired’s article here. It’s a great read I promise.
