How to activate iPhone in Dubai

Hi one and all

Greeting to you all from Dubai. It is good to have joined this site as it has a lot of info. I have a question to who ever has an answer. A friend of mine bought me an iphone from the US I have tried to have it activated on i tunes but you first need to open an account with AT&T.; This means that I cannot use the phone till etisalat has the system up and running. Any other ideas on how to get it activated to use all its sytems apart from the phone?
