How to Advertise on Bing

Unless you’ve been under a rock with no Wi-Fi, you’ve heard about Bing, Microsoft’s latest venture into the multi-billion dollar search engine industry. I’ve done a few test searches and I’m actually somewhat impressed by the presentation of the search results.
Now that I feel like I have the Bing basics down, I’ll take a look at the search engine’s lifeblood — it’s advertising interface. As an online marketer, I’m excited about this test drive.
First, let me head over to Bing.com to read up how to advertise on Bing.
Wait. Where is the advertising link? I’ve looked around the page and don’t see anything. However, I do see a link to Beyonce’s music video. (Not a bad substitute, honestly.)
I know, I’ll search on Bing to figure out how to advertise on Bing.
Hmmm. Interesting.
I’ll go ahead and search “advertise on bing” anyways.
Okay, that’s just hilarious. The first result talks about advertising on Google. The rest of the results don’t appear to answer my question.
How do you advertise on Bing? I guess I’ll do what I usually do … I’ll Google it.
Thanks, Google.
Tomorrow I’ll actually continue on and report on how to advertise on Bing — now that I figured out where to start.

Heh,
That is so funny. I got to this thread while trying to find how to addvertize on bing.
This proves again that their search engine still needs work.
I would like to ad my How to DVD Videos to folks who like to learn and do there own work on there Heating Systmes, Oil Fired Furnaces, Hot Water Boilers, How to Install Boilers, Oil Burners, How to do Plumbing made easy, My dvd videos are the only ones available in the USA as its a closely secret trade. The how to dvd videos will educate people to whether there being ripped off or teach how the service and repairs are done properly. I would like to see a posting on Bing if at possible? How do i submit my dvd video’s and website on Bing.com ? Thanks Richard Grzywna, South Burlington, VT 05403
For a week I have been trying to get some advertising to work on Bing. This is quite an undertaking. I wanted to compare costs and hits with my add campaign on Google. To make it a fair comparison, I entered the exact same key words and the same bids.
After three days and several phone calls with Microsoft, following was the result: Google had impressions = 7500. Bing = 105.
During the phone calls with Microsoft to find out why I did not get any more impressions, the answer was that my keywords had such a low volume so they were not inserted. I told Microsoft that if I used my keywords “Roman Coins” or “Greek Coins” other adds showed up. Now I got the answer that my bid was not high enough. I answered that on Google you get a lower position on the page. Your add is not ignored. Microsoft told me thats how Bing works. If Microsoft wants to make money on Bing, they better advertise at any price. I still believe that Bing has a program bug even if they do not want to tell me.
I will stay with Google. Forget about Bing. It is useless. By the way, the sugestion I got was to raise my bid from 0.10 to 1.20. Thats not how I save money.
Hi Stephen – found this via Google :-)
I wrote a similar article on my blog (no link cos it’s in a different language) and stared getting hits on it via the search engines.
However, as with yours, the article was about how I “couldn’t figure it out” so I thought I’d Google it again today for the benefit of my new visitors (actually giving them the info they are searching for).
The problem I found was trying to figure out how to advertise in languages other than English and French (which I think are the only options available now – not sure).
Well, I thought I’d leave a comment on yours – it seems even English speakers are finding this difficult! :-)
I was hoping the Yahoo – MS deal was going to make things easier on the advertising front – but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Regards,
Ricardo
This is hilarious! I was searching for the same thing, namely how to advertise on bing and ended up on your site.
At least I can now type in the address from your screenshot. You would think bing would have a small link in their footer saying “advertise” or something like that.
I gets more interesting. Found the page through your screenshot and followed it all the way to signup. However, NOTHING happens when I click Signup. I’m on Safari och Mac OSX. Either they have disabled signups for Mac users or the whole thing is still very much in beta…
I feel your pain! I too, did due diligence to try to learn about advertising on BING and landed here – no other info available. Guess the safe bet is to stick with Google, sad as it sounds
I found the same problem. You think that they would advertise on their own search engine??? lol
Thanks for highlighting how much MS sucks. People need to see this…
