How To Conjure Up Your Dream Job
Months ago a good friend and coworker wrote on a small white index card “Gina’s dream job” and asked me to fill it in. I was really stumped and the card ended up sitting blank on my desk for a long time. The problem I was having was that the job I really wanted to write on that card seemed really silly to me, out of my reach, and pretty low paying.
One day after I’d moved to a different office in my organization I ran across the card and after staring at it for a while, I grabbed a pen and wrote “Writer”, then stuck it on my bulletin board. See where I’m going with this? No, writing this blog isn’t exactly paying the bills but It’s a step in the right direction.
I wrote about getting this blogging job a while back and in that post I credited social networking, Twitter and Prayer (not in that order). Well, I firmly believe that index card played a role, too. It’s called the law of positive attraction.
The law of positive attraction has been around for ages but was made famous not that long ago when it was discussed to death in The Secret which was aired on Oprah giving it instant fame. If you haven’t read this book you should pick it up from your library and if you hate reading, get the DVD. It has changed lots of people’s lives.
So why don’t you give it a try? Get an index card or any piece of paper and write “_____’s (fill in name) dream job” then write your dream job under it. Don’t over-think it like I did. Your dream job will probably pop into your head the instant you think about it, then you’ll spend the rest of the time talking yourself out of it. Just do it!
