Well, that's an eye-opening read. Not as a rude awakening, but as a very pleasant one. Because, I'm a software engineer who loves to number-crunch, and have a deep underlying thirst for astronomy. Where does one begin a job search for these sorts of positions?

Hello BC, diurnal means daily and that's what I meant in this context. Their daily schedule makes them a natural.

But, I realize it's probably more correct in this context to say nocturnal, so I'll change it. Thanks.

Regarding Data processing, archiving, calibration and serving as being the biggest need, what kind of training does this type of work require and where can I get it? Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. However, don't you mean "nocturnal" (not "diurnal") schedule. I have better results when I do my night-sky observing at night...
