How to: Speed up Windows XP’s UI

Not all of us have dual core processors, 10000rpm harddrives, or state of the art videocards. Some of you may be shuffling along with a first generation pentium 4 (or heavens forbid, a pentium 3), less than 256 of ram and integrated videocards and a slow windows XP OS. If you experience slow response time when opening folders or clicking on menus then you wanna try out this trick:

1. Go to XP’s display properties control panel by right clicking on any clear space on your XP desktop
2. click on appearance -> effects
3. uncheck everything except “Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation until i press the Alt key”
4. Enjoy a more responsive (albeit less cooler looking) OS.
