How To Start A Real World Company Online

woodshopConfusing title I know. I’m still trying to make sense of it. I’ve been wanting to try out an experiment. I want to start a company with a real world product only by leveraging the internet. I have a few ideas that take me back a few years to my days working in a woodshop. I want to have the WorkBoxers’ readers follow me through this process and I will detail the results of this experiment and show how easy it is to get started with a business just by leveraging the power of the internet.

First off I’m headed off to do some power napping and also to grab a high powered domain name that will be competitive. A solid domain is really important and should really be apart of your branding strategy. I currently don’t have a ‘brand’ since its a brand new business. So I’m the boss and have a clean slate to start fresh.

I don’t want to have a huge budget to get off the ground. I want it to be nearly 100% organic growth from online marketing. Obviously with this business ‘woodworking’ its going to take some investment to get off the ground. In my case I’m going to try the partnership model. Where I own a % of the business in exchange for providing work to an already successful woodworker.

In a few hours I should have a solid domain selected and I can head down the road to setting up a new website.

I’ve also thought of doing something similar to this, but never have had the time to do it…

I’ll be following your “business” and see if I can learn a thing or two along the way. Good luck!

    Dave,

All the best on this venture. My curiosity is piqued as to what the product is, and how you’ll market it… this is going to be exciting.

The concept is proven… it just takes a solid idea, the marketing prowess to push it out ahead, and the longevity to keep it alive until it really grabs hold.

This reminds me of products like http://www.jewelboxing.com/ and http://clipnseal.com/ … both of which got their “big break” from the web.

At any rate, please post often and detailed! I’m looking forward to following along.

Ryan Carson has a blog called BareNakedApp where he detailed every aspect of conceptualizing, creating and marketing a web app called, Amigo… The site not only inspired a lot of people, but spawned a lot of discussion and empowered folks to be successful themselves.

So, kudos to you for doing this.

    Jay

Hi, great idea – will be interesting to see how this goes.. I’m doing a couple of similar experiments, and trying to bring customers to small existing ‘real world’ niche business that would not normally have a web presence. Basically, I’m trying to drive customers with blogging content, articles etc.. and with a close to zero starting budget. At the moment I don’t take any % from the sales, but instead run a few ads on the site. I then plan to add a few internet based revenue streams to the sites.. things like t-shirts, books etc. Hopefully the online/offline business will drive sales between them.

I have several great ideas for internet

only businesses but, I am having a hard time

getting the resources I need to implement my

plan. I am looking specifically at software

that is already in the market place for

investment trading and having someone or

being able myself to confiqure the software

to function for my specific purpose. Maybe you

can help or direct me to someone that can help.
