How-To: Stream Music From Windows To Your PS3

PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 is a great home entertainment device, and it’s a really great tool for listening to your music library through that home theatre set-up you spent so much money on. We’ve already discussed you can take music from your iPod and listen to it via your PS3, but what if all of your songs are stuck on your computer? Well, in this weeks how-to, we take a look at streaming music (and other media) from your Windows PC to your PS3.

Orb

1. In order to do this, you will need to download some software to your PC. Head over to the Orb website and download the latest version of that program.

2. Once downloaded, Orb will prompt you through a four-part install process. Just follow the on screen instructions in order to set up your account, do a system check, etc. Once this is completed you can begine streaming.

3. Start up Orb on your PC, and the go into the Music menu of your PS3’s cross media bar (the fourth option from the left). From there, select the Search For Media Servers option. The PS3 will then start looking for the Orb connection on your PC. Once it’s done, you will see a message saying “1 media servers were found.” Hit the X button to get out of that screen.

4. You should now see an Orb logo right underneath the Search For Media Servers option. From here, you can select the Music folder and start listening to your library via your PS3. You can also do the same with your video and photo collections.

So there you have it, it’s not very difficult to set-up, and allows you to access all of your music without having to go through the tedious process of ripping CDs to the PS3s hard drive. Additionally, this helps save space on the PS3, which you may need for your ever growing PSN game collection.

Do you have any PlayStation related questions? Anything you can’t quite figure out on your PS3? Let us know in the comments or via email, and we’ll tackle it in the next edition of How-To.
