Human Growth Hormone Use And Abuse

With the huge baseball steroid scandal and Yankees pitcher Andy Petitte admitting to brief use of HGH or human growth hormone, you have a lot of people wondering what exactly is HGH and why are people taking it to enhance performance.
Human growth hormone is exactly what it says it is. It is a hormone produced and released by the pituitary gland that regulates the human body’s growth. HGH does a lot of things in the human body and when injected it can increase energy, muscle growth, insulin and has even been said to slow aging. When used properly (meaning for those that NEED it) it can be a great thing.
Unfortunately, like everything that is good and should be used in moderation for the right reason, it is widely abused. HGH is usually used by injection and over use can cause the pituitary gland to stop producing it, so now your stuck injecting it for the rest of your life to maintain the results you got and/or want.
Some side effects of HGH abuse are high blood pressure, joint pain or discomfort, fluid retention, carpal tunnel syndrome hyperglycemi, and pancreatitis.
Pro athletes sometimes use HGH to enhance energy, and build muscle. In the long run, HGH abuse is bad news as is abuse of any anabolic steroid. Steroid use has always existed in sports since it was introduced, it’s just as of late that it has really become an issue and being cracked down on. In my opinion it will always be a problem. Athletes are always looking for that way to “One-up” their opponent and some will do it by any means possible. Some will always take the risk in using and hoping to not get caught and as technology grows they find ways to make them non-detectable until technology find away to detect those “non detectable” steroids.
One huge problem is teen athletes using steroids and HGH to enhance their performance in hopes to become pros someday. This is a huge problem because as a teen the body isn’t even fully developed and by using HGH and anabolics it totally screws the bodies HGH and testosterone levels up, possibly ruining them for life.
Bottom line is this: Steroids abuse is not healthy whether it’s anabolic or HGH. If you have a health problem and need steroids or hgh injections then by all means.
