Hybrids for Drivers of Trucks and SUVs

Currently there are 14 gas-electric hybrids sold by major car manufacturers in the US. Out of all those models only half are cars, and out of them, only three can be called “compact.”

Why are people still seeing hybrids as tiny autos you’ll be falling out of?

Starting with 2008, we’ll see 7 hybrid models of top-selling SUVs, and two new truck models, developed by the likes of Ford, Dodge, Chevy and GMC.

What can you buy now?

Ford Escape FWD or 4WD

Mercury Mariner 4WD

Toyota Highlander 2WD or 4WD

Lexus RX 400h 2Wd or 4WD

Saturn Vue Green Line

Later in 2008, the following models will be available (though some, like the Yukon, only through special order):

Mazda Tribute 2WD or 4WD

Mercury Mariner in FWD

Chevy Equinox

Chevy Tahoe

GMC Yukon

Dodge Durango

What trucks are on the market, or coming soon?

Chevy Silverado  2WD or 4WD

GMC Sierra 2WD or 4WD
